Frequently Asked Questions

Hi everyone,

We've been hearing some of the same questions coming up, and so have compiled the answers for all of you here. If you have any other questions, please email me directly or post here so I can answer them.

Q: When exactly is the reunion?
A: As previously posted, the planned reunion events will start July 1, 2012 and end on July 4th with a bang (literally, as in with fireworks!).

Q: What will we be doing at the reunion?
A: The itinerary has not changed much from previous posts, but here is the final schedule:
Sunday, July 1 - We will be starting with a Welcome Brunch at 10 am. After, we will be taking a family photo, and then enjoying the amenities of the resort together with a pool party and volleyball tournament. Everyone will be responsible for the own dinner that night.
Monday, July 2 - We have planned a group trip to Six Flags Great America. Tickets are NOT included in your reunion payment - with group ticket pricing, tickets will be approximately $32/each + tax. For those who do not want to go to the theme park, we will provide a list of shopping, golfing, and other attractions in the area. Everyone will be responsible for their own meals.
Tuesday, July 3 - The morning will be free time - there will be a chance for golfing, shopping, or whatever you like. Everyone will be responsible for their own breakfast and lunch. Our formal dinner will start at 6 pm that evening.
Wednesday, July 4 - We will be exploring downtown Chicago, and in the afternoon will be setting up our picnic area and get ready to watch the fireworks over Navy Pier. Everyone will be responsible for their own breakfast and lunch, and then we will do a picnic dinner together.
Q: What will the dress code be for the formal dinner?
A: Cocktail attire.

Q: When do we get our really cool t-shirts?
A: You'll be getting a welcome package at the brunch on Sunday.

Q: When are we wearing our really cool t-shirts?
A: We will wear them for our family photo on Sunday, for Great America on Monday, and again downtown on Wednesday. (Don't worry, there are washing machines at the hotel for washing in between!)

Again, if you have any questions please contact me directly. Thanks, and see you all soon!

Second Payment!

Hi everybody!

The second payment is going to be due May 15th and will be in the amount of $50. Please note that there will likely be a smaller third payment of $10-15 to cover any extra expenses that will be due at the reunion itself. We will provide an accounting of all the expenses as it gets closer.

Remember that there are two ways to make your payment:
OPTION 1: Online. Through PayPal (www.paypal.com). To do this, you will need to create and login to your PayPal account and link your checking account.  (Folks in Canada, there may be a small fee associated with transferring the money - about $1.) Then, click on "Send Money" and enter vaperera@gmail.com to transfer the money to my account. I recommend linking your bank account to PayPal instead of charging it to a credit card,  because if you do that they will charge you an additional fee.
OPTION 2By Check. Please make the check out to Veronica Perera, 32365 Wing Lake Road, Franklin, MI 48025.
Thanks in advance!

(Updates: We've got a DJ and Photobooth all set up, and are working on t-shirt designs!)

Second Payments

Welcome to the Hotel Oak Brook Hills, such a lovely place...

Hello family,

Here is the information about hotel reservations for our reunion. We have a block of rooms at the Oak Brook Hills Marriott Resort in Oak Brook, IL. The resort is about half an hour outside the city by car, and just 2 miles away from the nearest train station where you can park your car for much cheaper and ride into town. It has a very nice pool, volleyball court, and access to golf courses.

Our group rate is $107+tax/night.

To make reservations, you can choose from the following options:
1. Call either (800) 228-9290 or (630) 850-5555, and ask for the Astorga Family Reunion rate; or
2. Click here to make the reservation online. (You should see the fields for the dates and the group code already pre-filled.)

Please book your rooms as soon as possible to makes sure you get the group rate! If you run into any trouble, just let me know. If you choose not to stay at this particular hotel, that is fine - just be aware that this will likely be our meeting place for our planned events.

And another reminder, the first payment of $50 is due on February 15th!

It's all a numbers game...preliminary accounting for the reunion

Hello folks,

We've put together an estimate of costs (per person) for the upcoming reunion, so that everyone has an idea of what their payments are going towards. Again, let me stress that this is a rough estimate!

~$40-45 for banquet dinner
~$5-10 for DJ for the banquet
~$10 for decorations/party favors
~$10 prizes for scavenger hunt or other games/activities
~$15 for reunion t-shirts
~$10 miscellaneous expenses
APPROXIMATE TOTAL: $90-100 per person

Remember, the first payment due on February 15th is $50 per person. Please see the previous "Getting Ready for Chicago" post for methods of payment. If you don't pay, we won't know you are coming and will not be able to plan properly!

If you have a special situation, (i.e. you are not able to attend the banquet, or need additional time to make payments) please let me know so that we can make arrangements.

The second payment will be due in March, and we will adjust it accordingly when we figure out what our exact costs are going to be.

Getting Ready for Chicago

Hi Astorga Family!

We wanted to let you know how things are progressing with the reunion plans. There are a few things that we are going to need everyone to take care of over the next few weeks.

1. Send in your payment for reunion expenses. We need to collect money to cover expenses for our family banquet, t-shirts, and miscellaneous expenses while we are there. The first payment of $50 per person will be due by February 15th.  The second payment will be due by March 31st.

Please note, this price is for children as well. Any child old enough to eat at the banquet should pay. If we find there is a significant difference in children's pricing, we will adjust the second payment accordingly. Also, the amount of the second payment is not determined as of yet, but will likely be similar to the amount of the first. An accounting of what we are using the money for is posted above.

You can make your payment in one of two ways:
OPTION 1: Online. Through PayPal (www.paypal.com). To do this, you will need to create and login to your PayPal account and link your checking account.  (Folks in Canada, there may be a small fee associated with transferring the money - about $1.) Then, click on "Send Money" and enter vaperera@gmail.com to transfer the money to my account. I recommend linking your bank account to PayPal instead of charging it to a credit card,  because if you do that they will charge you an additional fee.
OPTION 2: By Check. If you prefer, you can send a check to me at Veronica Perera, 32365 Wing Lake Road, Franklin, MI 48025.
2. Book your flight and make any car rental arrangements! Planned events will be happening from Sunday, July 1st through Wednesday, July 4th so make your plans accordingly. Our formal banquet is  scheduled for the night of Tuesday, July 3rd.

3. Make your hotel reservations. See the post above for instructions on how to reserve a room at the Oak Brook Hills Marriott.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions! Get excited!

And the winner is...CHICAGO!

Hello Astorga family!

Welcome to the official page for the Astorga Family Reunion of 2012!

Due to the short time frame, and to best accommodate everyone's needs, we have chosen Chicago as the location for our family reunion in July 2012.

The official dates of the reunion events will be Saturday, June 30th through Wednesday, July 4th. But of course, anyone who would like to stay in Chicago longer is welcome to.

For accommodations, we are looking into getting a group rate at the Oakbrook Hills Marriott Resort, just outside the city. Here is our tentative itinerary:
          Saturday, June 30th - arrival!
Sunday, July 1st - church, activity in Downtown Chicago
Monday, July 2nd - group trip to Great America amusement park
Tuesday, July 3rd - golfing, shopping, etc., formal banquet at night
Wednesday, July 4th - Taste of Chicago, and 4th of July fireworks

The itinerary is flexible, and anyone who does not want to participate in the group activity for the day doesn't have to. We'll also provide suggestions of things to do for anyone arriving early or staying later.

Check back for updates regarding accommodations and costs of special gathering events!
